Research-driven technology for fire safety

Founded in Finland in 2021, Detectium brings digital twin research and AI into fire safety. We connect visual sensing with a model of the site to help people understand and respond to risk.

Founded in Finland in 2021

Detectium is a Finnish startup born from a collaboration between three partners: EIT Digital, Business Finland and Aalto University. The shared objective is to mitigate industrial fire-related casualties through the application of digital twinning technology and AI.

In 2023 Detectium secured funding from the EIT Digital Open Innovation Factory programme, supporting the development of its fire detection technology. In the same year the company received support from Business Finland, enabling dedicated research and development toward the solution.

Definition

What is a digital twin?

A digital twin is the digital counterpart of a physical asset that specifically works with real-time data fed by sensor systems to record and analyse the real-time structural and environmental parameters of a physical asset. This is done for the purpose of performing highly accurate simulations and data analytics.

For fire safety, a digital twin connects detection data to the layout of a building. It helps operators locate incidents, assess potential fire spread and review recorded information after an event.

Vision & mission

Improving fire detection and risk assessment

We want operators to see more than an alarm: the location of a hazard, the surrounding conditions and how an incident may develop. Our work connects sensing and simulation to make that information easier to use.

Our mission is to improve the reliability of fire detection and the information available for response. We combine AI and digital twins to support earlier detection and better-informed decisions.
